Early Outdoor Season Coaches Notes
Published by
The Outdoor season is trying to get started. Our first meet was Postponed and our second meet was a home meet, which I had to organize and run and did not get a chance to coach or watch. The toughest part of this part of the season is getting in quality workouts and getting in racing experience. Before you know it Middle May will be here and you want to make sure they have the training they need to be at their best. Right now my top 5 distance runners are skipping some meets to do workouts while some of the younger guys are getting their chances to race on the track. Tonight I have a meet and am taking only 11 guys. Four distance runners! Nick, Sam, Sean, Jacob and Brendan are staying at STM and doing a track workout. We have a meet on Friday that we want to run hard at. SJO, Unity, Monticello, Uni-Urbana, Jesse Hahne and others will be there. It is our first chance to be up against our areas best during outdoor. The Monticello Invitational does not do team scores so we are going to focus on individual events, we will be running our B 4 x 800 and putting the guys in their events to get a chance to race them fresh. After this week we are going to work on hitting the 4 x 800 and then getting recovered to come back in the 3200, 800 or the 1600. One of the problems with being a small downstate school is finding meets to run against AAA teams and different competition. I am looking for a meet on the weekend of May 4th where I could take a few athletes so they could have a chance to run against the best in the state. Anyone know of one please let me know.
